The M & K Foundation
Oconee County, Georgia

In the summer of 1983, two Oconee County families suffered tragedies within six weeks of each other. Melissa Norris, daughter of Don and Donetta Norris, was killed in an automobile accident in Oconee County. Karen Nasworthy, wife of G. A. Nasworthy, was killed in an automobile accident on the Atlanta Highway in Athens. At the time of these accidents, G.A. was the outgoing President and Don was the incoming President of the Rotary Club of Oconee County.

The Rotary Club decided to honor Melissa and Karen by establishing a foundation in their memory. Therein, the M & K Foundation was born.

By honoring the memory of Melissa Norris and Karen Nasworthy, the M & K Foundation supports the academic and leadership development of young people in Oconee County. Since 1984, the Foundation has provided more than $150,000 in college and leadership scholarships to 145 students.
