ROTARY STUDENTS OF THE SEMESTER - JAN.-JUN. 2008
The Rotary Club of Oconee County recognized outstanding students (and their selected teachers) from each Oconee County secondary school at their 29 April 2008 regular weekly meeting. All students and teachers received framed certificates with the students also receiving a Savings Bond, courtesy of North Georgia Bank.

ROTARY CLUB STUDENT OF THE MONTH - MAY 2007
The Rotary Student of the Month for May 2007 is Sam Squires (son of Charlie and Lucy Squires), Salutatorian of the first graduating class of North Oconee High School. He has been an honor student and a National AP Scholar and actively involved in Beta Club, National Honor Society and Science Club. He also was a three-year letterman on the soccer team. Sam will be attending Duke University in the fall of 2007. Sam selected Jeannette Phillips (AP Calculus) as the Teacher of the Month. The Rotary Student of the Month for April 2007 is Emily Elmore, one of two Honorarians in the first graduating class at North Oconee High School. She has been an Oconee Scholar the three past years, received Academic Awards in sports and drama and served as class treasurer for two years. School affiliations include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Varsity Swimming, Library Competition Team, Drama Club, International Thespians, has participated in Youth Leadership Oconee and is serving on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee. She plans to attend UGA and major in History Education. Emily selected Ann Stoneburner as the Teacher of the Month.

March Student of the Month, Taylor Davis, is an active member of the North Oconee High School Interact Club. He has logged over 100 community service hours working with Secret Santa, Haunted House, and Relay for Life. Taylor is also a member of the Drama Club and serves as a technical director in the NOHS fine arts facility. He is a member of the Titan Varsity Soccer team where he plays goalie. Taylor likes to spend most of his free time hanging out and working with productions at NOHS and the Oconee county Civic Center. After high school he hopes to work on a degree in technical theater design. Taylor named his drama teacher, Mr. Drew Doss at his Rotary Teacher of the Month.

February Student of the Month was Blair Terry of Athens Academy. Blair is currently the Senior Class President, member of the National Honor Society and Interact Club, President of the International Club and was named Homecoming Queen in October 2006. She traveled to India this past summer with nine other Athens Academy students where they made connections with a school in Southern India and created an initiative to complete a media center at the school. For the last two years, she has organized a luncheon and fashion show which has raised over $4,000 for the Athens Area Homeless Shelter. She selected Sally Harris (who also traveled to India with the student group) as her Teacher of the Month.

January Student of the Month was Hannah Shivar of Prince Avenue Christian School. Hannah has maintained a core High School average of 99 and a core High School GPA of 4.25. She has been recognized and received awards for her volunteer contributions to the school (part-time volunteer office aide), to the church (mission trips and the Awana Program) and to the community (Relay for Life).She has already been accepted to UGA and Truett McConnell College. Hannah selected Kaitie Bryant as the Teacher of the Month.
ROTARY CLUB STUDENT OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER 2006
The December 2006 Student of the Month was Bryce Zimmerman, a senior at Westminster Christian Academy. Bryce is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club and has received academic honors in Calculus, Chemistry, English, Bible, Spanish and History. Bryce has lettered in football and track and, last year, earned 6th place in the State in the triple jump event. He enjoys playing the trumpet, weightlifting, and metal sculpting and volunteers weekly at the Sparrow’s Nest. Bryce selected Dr. Jonathan Evans as his Teacher of the Month.
